Vatican Illumination,
oil on canvas, 30 x 40"
|
When Lee was in New
York City's Music and Art studying Art History he fell in
love with the art of the Renaissance. The word itself means
rebirth, and this would later inspire the phoenix iconography in his
artwork.
Lee's favorite artists from this period of time remain
Michelangelo, Leonardo and Raphael. Many of the works found in
this series were transcribed from Vatican ceiling photographs taken by
the artist on a past trip to Rome. |
