Unfortunately part of being a white man in America is
to come to terms with our past, and in particular, our atrocities.
What my ancestors did to the African Americans and Native Americans of
this country cannot be forgotten or glossed over. I will not
forget and am compelled to pay tribute as I can, even though I know it
is of no use at all.
Black Elk was inspired by the great Lakota Sioux and
his attempt to unite the broken hoop of his people. Crazy Horse
was inspired by the mystical Oglala warrior who walked the "red road"
for his people and was in turn killed by one of his own kind. |
