Biographical Statement: Born in New York City, Lee showed an early aptitude for art winning citywide awards and competitions. He graduated from the esteemed High School of Music and Art in Manhattan with honors where he majored in Art and has been on a creative path ever since. He has been driven over the past five years to create a refreshing body of work that dynamically expresses the universal stories and their myth and magic that resonates in all our lives; that is also mirrored in all of nature and creation. The passion, emotion and spirit that thread these archetypal stories are what inspires Lee to illuminate these truths via the prism of his work. Following his bliss, he decided to build on the radical notion of making a living out of Art …and in doing so has taken up the challenge of his own signature story; inspiration. He is an expressionist at heart, but perhaps more specifically, an exploring Symbolic Abstract Expressionist. Lee’s abstract oil paintings use color to create drama on diverse canvas shapes ranging from circles and ovals, to triangles and hexagons. These textured paintings contain incomplete, superimposed images that allow viewers to essentially see different paintings simultaneously. His papier mâché sculptures are created in both relief and full round format. Many are inspired by the mythical creatures and classical materials of ancient times whilst placed in an abstract composition of the contemporary. His watercolors are defined by line and the brush stroke. In fact, his flying brush strokes may be the most symbolic component of his art. Lee invites you to share in what he delights in creating and welcomes you to acknowledge your personal relationship with Art and its parallels and inspiration in each of our lives. Lee Arrington lives his true life as a thriving Artist in beautiful Southern Vermont with his wife, son, five joy-bearing dogs and cat.
Modigliani, oil on canvas, 24 x 48" Artist's Statement: "For me, Art is a powerful and alchemical expression of one’s outlook, perception and spiritual journey. It is stepping outside oneself into a fluid mode of expression, that which is forever linked in time. Art is colorful and vibrant; full of potent human expression, the oldest kind we know. Art invites the imagination to participate, and our visual response to our world is among the strongest. I love the three dimensionality of sculpture and the optical illusion of two dimensional surfaces. Being more than the sum of its materials and the skill of the artist; it is forever linked to the unconscious and often directly reflects our spiritual and emotional journey in life. My art, quite simply, is about me: my feelings, my opinions, my interpretation and impression of life, our stories and their meanings. My art is born out of imagination and my answer to the call of fulfilling the dream of living this life in a sacred way. Further it is a testament to living a life that I love and in doing so serving the community of the planet. My art breathes life and originality because it is birthed in a purified source; my free and soaring imagination. Each work is a new adventure that unfolds only to the limit of my imagination, to create that which would not exist without me. My art is what I love; the power of color, the sensuality of texture, and symbolism, the shorthand of the psyche. My work has a freedom of expression and execution that underlies its vivifying effect on its viewer. My process is play on purpose, and is supported by an empowering philosophy of guided bliss that feeds my creativity. I strive for clarity in my being so that I may serve my work at its most inspired: the visual realization of a dream. My art is a visual record of part of my journey, indeed, part of all our journeys."
